Raw Deal is the Real Deal

Movie: Raw Deal
Scotch: Oban 14 yr
~
Last Wednesday, a smaller than usual group gathered to watch a larger than life movie, Raw Deal. Released in 1986 and sandwiched between Commando and Predator, it is easy to see why this gem of a Schwarzenegger movie is lesser known and often overlooked. In fact, only one of the group had already seen the movie while several others were not even aware of its existence prior to the viewing last Wednesday. Rest assured, it is well worth a look.
.
Arnold is in fine form, delivering lines like, "You should not drink and bake" after being assaulted with a chocolate cake in one scene, and calmly picking off bad guys with an assault rifle (which he's holding in one hand) while driving a convertable through a quarry in the next. And all of this without breaking a sweat.
.
Replete with classic one-liners, shoot-outs, mob wars, and car crashes, Raw Deal strikes all of the right chords to create a symphony of action, intrigue, and comic relief. I give it 4 pipes out of 5.

The chosen scotch for the evening was Oban 14 yr.
.
Color: A touch lighter than orange blossom honey
Nose: Peaks of autumnal fruit softening into a delicate foundation of lightly toasted malt and just a hint of peat
Body: Medium viscosity and soft on the tongue. In keeping with the overall character of the scotch.
Palate: Ripe apple, caramel and vanilla with just a hint of black pepper spice. Rounded out with sun-baked hay and very light smoke.
Finish: Clean... maybe a bit too clean. Quickly dissipating notes of darker caramel and apple wood..Overall, a delicious scotch, if a bit on the lighter side.
